How can I convert an xlr microphone jack to a mini plug?

I'm good with a soldering iron. Want Microphone XLR miniDV camcorder, but must match impedances.
I do not want to buy a simple adapter, it's too easy :-) I want to do this project without spending money. I am the son and all the things I need, but I'm not sure how to convert the 3 son into the XLR only 2 son in the mini-plug. So what I really need is some wiring instructions.

They are an XLR to 1 / 4 adapter cord. From there, get a 1 / 4-1 / 8 adapter. Done! No soldering required! All parts available at RadioShack!
